DeKalb Minister Gets 70 Years on Child Molestation Charge
By Channel 2 Action News

May 30, 2002 -- A DeKalb County minister has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for molesting a teenaged boy.

A DeKalb County judge sentenced Pastor Troy Brown today on 25 counts of child molestation. Prosecutors say Brown abused a 15-year-old boy who attended his church.

In court today, the pastor again denied the charges.

"I did not in my life, i've never molested a child in my life -- never touched a child in my life in a sexual manner or any manner to injure them or injure their mind or their well being," he said.

Brown's defense attorney has said he intends to appeal the conviction.

Meanwhile, a Cobb County man was also sentenced today on child pornography charges.

U.S. District Judge Marvin Shoob sentenced James Nicholas Joiner to two years in prison.

He pleaded guilty to receiving child porn on his computer last March. Authorities say they found the evidence on Joiner's home computer after he started e-mailing a young girl.

Investigators say he tried to lure her to a Douglas County park for sex, but was met by police officers instead.
