Pastor charged with statutory rape
NZHELELE - Siloam Hospital nurse, Mr Nngwedzeni Joseph Ramavu (37) who also serve as a Pastor for the Nzumbululo Church in Siloam near Makhado Township has appeared in the Dzanani Magistrate Court on Monday on the charge of statutory rape.
Insp Ndidzulafhi Obert Masiagwala of Siloam said on Monday that the suspect was alleged to have engaged in a sexual relationship with a 15 year old girl since November last year. Masiagwala reported that the victim was a friend of the suspect's daughter. She lives with her grandmother at Tshavhalovhedzi Village.
The victim told the police that the pastor has proposed love to her and threatened to cut her grandmother's pension fund if she disclosed the relationship to anyone. The girl depends on her grandmother's pension fund for survival.
She is five months pregnant. The matter was discovered by the community and forced their civic association to call the police.
Ramavu was arrested and appeared in the Dzanani Magistrate's Court on Monday. He was released on bail of R2 500 and the case was remanded to April 9.
